Swing, Don’t Hit
So many students start each lesson by saying that they “just want to be more consistent” My question to you is what are you doing to be more consistent? Here’s some free advice: swing the club, don’t hit the ball!
When I am swinging well I know that my left side is leading the body through impact. When I am not hitting the ball well I can feel tension with my right hand initiating the downswing. Notice I said swinging vs. hitting. Pros hit the ball more consistently than amateurs because they keep the club face on target line longer than amateurs.
Three Key Thoughts
- Start the downswing with the lower body not the upper body.
- Start the upper body by pulling with the left hand.
- After impact you want as much distance between the butt of the club and your stomach while keeping the right arm extended.
Good luck and have fun!
